Tower Theater's Open Mic Winner: Chris Rodgers

Two weeks ago the Tower Theater held their 7th Open Mic Night film festival for local filmmakers to showcase their work.  When all was said and done, one film walked away with both awards!  The film “Sam, Roscoe & Her” showed the tale of a man installing security cameras to see his dog at home, and instead got to see a lot more than he bargained for. And at the end of the night the film ended up winning both the Judge’s Selection Award, as well as the Audience Choice Award.

Illegal Beagle, The Playdead Movement, Talking Bombs

Back into the mix I was this past weekend, and I found a show right in the heart of downtown playing it up to a younger crowd.I went a-steppin' into Artopia this past Friday to check out the punk/ska show down in the basement. --- The political punk sounds of Talking Bombs, the experimental ska of Illegal Beagle, and the ever hard pounding sounds of The Playdead Movement.

Dragon's Keep

While the majority of comic and/or games shops have troubles staying open past a decade, one shop down in Provo is turning twenty-one this year --- Dragon's Keep has been helping provide the Utah County crowd with it's supply of local and national comic book titles for years, while also providing a home for a lot of fantasy and role playing games long before most of the ones we know today were created.  And while ownership has changed over the years, the ideals of the store remain the same today as they did in 1987.  I got a chance to chat with co-owner Levi Jensen about the store's history, it's upcoming celebration this Saturday, his thoughts on gaming a comics today, and a few other questions that came to mind.Levi Jensen

The Mediocre Show

When it comes to broadcasting, the majority of talk radio... sucks. It's true.

Positively 4th Street

For well over three decades, downtown Salt Lake City has been privy to an underground musical landmark. But most are completely clueless to it, driving right past it on the way home.--- Positively 4th Street has been sitting on the corner of 4th South and 4th West since the early 1900's, undergoing several changes until becoming a practice space for the majority of Utah's musicians and bands over the years.
