Checking
in here on the weekend, been a busy week. Last Saturday I made my
way to Fat Flake and Red Light, but here's a more detailed account
of that I wrote for the Salt Blog.
--- A lot of running around and taking care of other
personal stuff stopped me from making it to Muscle Hawk on Thursday, who I
recommend very much. But was able to make it out Friday night with
friends for The Devil Whale and former Sun Day Real Estate leading
man Jeremy Enigk. Enjoyed myself very much, but much apologies,
didn't bring the camera. Quite a show, with an encore that was practically demanded by the crowd. Hell of a show.
As
we now hit the holiday season
like a rusty Buick headed into a brick wall, next week brings us the
ultimate in family insanity... Thanksgiving. Ah, yes, I remember
fondly on all the years I spent with the family during the
festivities. Sneaking away to go play Doom, bailing out to go see a
movie, waiting for fights to ensue so I could go to a party in
Draper. And of course the year without a Thanksgiving... which we
tend not to bring up because we like to pretend 1998 never happened.
Not to mention the years I've had as an adult watching neighborhoods
burn to the ground because hey, who would think cooking a turkey
outside on a wooden porch with no supervision or flame precautions
would be a bad thing? But it's not all that horrible as I know a lot
of you who read this have got plans to enjoy yourselves beyond the
downtown lights, celebrating the one time of the year you can spent
with most (if not all) of your family. Especially Vegans, which I want
pictures of what a
Vegan Thanksgiving looks like. So while I'm not lucky enough to go
do anything, please, enjoy the day with those you love as best you
can.
For
local bands out there, two big events to start submitting for!!! The
more recent of the two, Velour in Provo is starting up their Winter
"Battle Of The Bands" to take place December 8th-12th with finals on
the 13th. Drop them a line and get your tape in to compete in that.
Down the road, and this is very big news for the scene in general...
THE UTAH ARTS FESTIVAL IS TAKING APPLICATIONS FOR PERFORMING ACTS FOR
ALL THREE DAYS. This past summer was packed with bands and artists
from every genre and then some, playing from start to finish all three
nights. Very awesome! Head over here to fill out the entry form. Looking ahead for me, I'll be updating the calendar for the next
few weeks soon, including new additions from The W Lounge and Tin Angel
Cafe. And then coming up this week I have Gallery Stroll, Plan-B Theater and the Tower Theater's
Open Mic Night winner for November. More planned on the way going
into December including a new concert, but a lot in the air right
now. As always, we'll see what happens.
