After
the predictable car-wreck that was Christmas and having to shovel
myself out of six inches of powder, I needed a show to cleanse the
palate. And did I choose wisely!
One of the
largest bookstores in the United States sits right on Main Street in the heart
of Salt Lake City. But you already new that because its been around for almost
eighty years.
When you think
video game companies, California and Japan tend to
be the two places you think of location wise. But did you know there are quite
a few here in Utah?
So the interview that was due to go up today was going to be with Colby from Exigent Records.But... Colby never got back to me after promising he'd do it.
Alternative art
in Utah has been gaining popularity over the past year, and a smaller gallery
has been making strides to get it a spotlight along side other forms. IAO
Projects has been promoting local and national artists our of its small space
for the majority of 2008, giving artists who don't fit into conventional terms
a chance to showcase their work in a bigger setting, bringing more of an
east-coast feel to the art scene in Utah.
Checking
in here as we near the end of the season, I've been getting quite a
number of shows in. The Subrosa/Old Timer one was fantastic, good to
see them back in action.
Last week you
saw the interview
with SubRosa for City Weekly, talking about the band's European tour and
new lineup. But this past Wednesday was the first chance us locals got to see
the band live in its new formation.
With so many looking for meaning behind photographs, one local artist changed pace for viewers to examine the art itself. --- Matt
Glass has been working on his craft for over three years now.
Back to Gallery Stroll for the last time in 2008... a tad ahead of
schedule I might add! --- Its that time of year in SLC again, when a number of things happen either
early or late due to the holiday season.
