Tuesday is DVD release day, and every week I'll be suggesting something you might want to race out and rent. And the improbable suggestion for this week is ...
Sex Drive. I was sort of on a critical island when it came to my enthusiasm for this throwback piece of crudeness, about an 18-year-old (Josh Zuckerman) who goes on a Chicago-to-Tennessee nookie run to lose his virginity to an Internet chat-room sweetheart. You'd expect plenty of lowbrow sophomoric comedy, but you might not expect a hilarious supporting performance by James Marsden (
X-Men's Cyclops) as our protagonist's dickish older brother, or the incongruous delights of Seth Green as a particularly sarcastic Amish guy. There is no redeeming social value whatsoever -- just laughs.
