Add another local (or should I say half-local) band to the obituary column this season. Mesa Drive has declared their breakup.

The four piece rock group, who split their time between here and Arizona, made the official announcement on MySpace this weekend after about a month of secrecy and speculation. The band released Take What You Want in 2007, getting local radio play on The End and X96 with “Hey Beautiful." They toured off and on across the west, played last year’s Pride Festival, and were on their way to recording a follow-up album for this spring. But Mesa Drive had a falling out with original drummer Jon forcing a replacement, which was quickly followed by one of the ultimate band crushing moments … instrument theft. But in their own words, the final decision to quit came when all the members' lives went into different directions.

“Life kinda happened to all of us too. Things can get kinda out of balance when you play in a band. In a nutshell, Marc returned to school, Zach joined the Navy, Taylor got a mission call and Chad took a job less compatible with the band life.”

They’ll be performing this weekend for one last hurrah, you can catch them in their last show on Feb. 28 at the Main Street Theater in Midvale.
