The uproar about Sunday nights episode of HBO'S hit series, I think, is a bit misplaced.
Everybody was making stew over a scene that depicted a sacred ceremony that I thought was done tastefully and in context with the storyline. Instead of going nuts over this single scene, LDS people and especially the LDS Church should thank HBO for the series.
The storyline has really heated up, and in every episode--especially last night's--the story shows the huge gulf between the LDS Church and polygamy. This has been a very entertaining show because the story takes place here in Utah, but it is but best repudiation of the practice of polygamy that has ever been produced.
Week after week, watching what a nightmare living this plural marriage life has me wondering why Bill Henrickson (Bill Paxton), doesn't run off screaming into the night. Who in the hell would want to live with all that?
I have one cat and she drives me crazy because she has me well-trained to do her bidding. Having a bunch of wives, a busload of kids, several houses ... who in their right minds would want to live Bill Henrickson's life?
