When last we heard from Salty Cricket Composers Collective back in June 2008, the members were showcasing string quartets and piano trios. And now, in case it isn't challenging enough getting audiences out to hear new compositions, Crystal Young-Otterstrom and company have put together a program titled "Melange" made up entirely of electronic and mixed-media works.

But as Tracy Chapman once sang, startin' from zero, got nothin' to lose. And this fascinating group of artists have taken to heart the notion of creating without a "business plan." In uncertain times, you've got to respect that kind of daring.

Join Salty Cricket tomorrow night (Saturday, April 11) at the Rose Wagner Center Rose Room at 7 p.m. for a program that includes Young-Otterstrom's "iPhone Sextet No. 1" and other works that incorporate film, dance, electro-acoustics and even fluglehorn. Take a chance on the new.
