Sneak out of work early today for X96's Big Ass Show at Usana Amphitheater. Doors open at 3 p.m. Check out performer pick here.

New York Dolls canceled their Saturday Depot performance. Maybe David Johannsen couldn't fit into his tiny jeans?

Eh.

That's one less act for you to juggle tomorrow eve. Why not spend some time with Michael Gross and the Statuettes who will release their new EP at The Collective Loft (10 N. Main, Farmington). Dust & Daylight adds a bit of twang to the group’s signature pop, which carries a slightly uneasy tone beneath the jingle-jangle flow. The six-track album is flawlessly produced with instrumentation that downright shimmers around Gross’ heartthrob delivery. It's fast becoming one of our favorite jams. The all-ages show will also feature art work by Jeremy Wilkinson and Statuette Matt Glass whose photographs are not unlike the band's music - seemingly straightforward portraits marked by dark imagery and tension.

Also Saturday, steer your car to the middle of nowhere for Wizard Fest 2009, a completely DIY outdoor fest sans corporate sponsors or mainstream hype. Don't miss Antelope Island featuring Blackhole's Chopper and dearly departed quartet The Cunted's Niki Wylie performing more melancholy music than their other group's produce - or produced. BTW, The Cunted's core are busy working on a new project. Stay tuned for more catchy crass fun.
