New Hampshire was the ninth of the original colonies to ratify the Constitution, and the first to declare independence against England. And now it's become the sixth state to recognize marriage equality.
It has produced one U.S. President: Franklin "the other gay president"* Pierce. Pierce was once considered the worst president in the nation's history; perhaps he would be relieved to know this distinction was lifted a few years ago when George W. Bush took First Place in that pony race.
New Hampshire seems like a nice place, filled with decent, fair-minded folks. Way to go, Granite State!
* My mistake. After I looked it up, I found it was James Buchanan who was shacked up with Pierce's VP Bill King for many, many years; Buchanan is the one who went on to become "the other gay president."
