Citizen Revolt Alert:

What is Gerrymandering you say? The mythological cousin of the Jabberwocky? Close, but the Gerrymandered district is a beast very real and much more grotesque than any fabled chimera you could shake a stick at.

Gerrymandering is the power employed by politicians to craft the boundaries of their own voting districts, allowing them to play a little power protect and make sure there districts are filled with just the voter demographics that will keep them in office.

It is an absurdly unfair practice and conflict of interest, and one that some decent but pissed off citizens can’t stand anymore.

For those who feel this practice is subversive to the democratic process check out an event tomorrow for the Utah Redistricting Standards Commission. The group is seeking to advance an initiative to craft an independent 11 body redistricting commission to make boundaries based on fair representation and not political trickery.

So check this shit out:

Tomorrow July 9, Salt Lake County Council Chambers, 2001 S. State Street, 7 p.m.-9 p.m. www.fairboundaries.org
