Weekend Live Picks: Back to School Edition

Another eclectic weekend on the live music front! Tonight, rock out with the locals or hang with some hip European electro kings:---
Though marketed as “the home of dance evolution,” Club Edge recently expanded its repertoire to include live music by local bands including Vile Blue Shades and Naked Eyes. Tonight, hard-hitting Invdrs, Blackhole and Laughter will brutalize the venue. Cheap whiskey and beer scheduled to open. Club Edge, 615 N. 400 West, 9 p.m.
Guillaume Manbell and Greg Kazubski are two impossibly cool French men with impeccable taste. As Teenage Bad Girl, they join contemporaries Justice representing a new wave of European dance music with electro-jams that carry huge crossover appeal for rockers and punks. The duo’s Salt Lake City performance is one of six stops on their American tour debut. Help pop their stateside cherry! Tomorrow nigh, the king of rock and roll, Chuck Berry, duck walks his way across the Eccles Center stage. Band of Annuals and Tolchock Trio take over Urban Lounge. Hot Buttered Rum headlines the Intermountain Acoustic Music Association's Folk & Bluegrass Festival which also features performances by Cosy Sheridan & TR Ritchie, Kristin Erickson, Lab Dogs, Kate MacLeod & Shanahy, Josh Rosenthal, Mary Tebbs and Josh Hamilton. The free event runs noon to 10 p.m. at the Gallivan Center. Or, spend the evening at Usana Amphitheatre with Ice Cube, Fabolous, Maino, Twista, Mr. Capone-e, Clipse and Mr. Criminal for the 10th annual hip-hop celebration, Summerjam. Doors: 5 p.m.
Sunday, support Utah's LAHPAH (Local Artists Helping Prevent and Assist the Homeless) whose third annual benefit concert donates proceeds to Youth City and the Utah Youth Mentor Project to help kids fulfill their basic needs. Enjoy live performances by Utah artists Afro Omega, Colin Robison, Gentri Watson, Debi Graham Band, Andale!, James Shook, Brinton Jones of The Devil Whale, Shaky Trade, Jebu, RuRu, Radio Rhythm Makers, Mad Max & The Wild Ones, Chaz Prymek, The Mandalas, Our Time In Space and Jackie Campbell.
