Remember Van Jones, Obama's green jobs advisor? He resigned weeks ago under a torrent of media criticism and smears--via Glenn Beck, et al--for being a "truther," or a criminal, or a socialist.
It's a pretty decent week to be looking for new home-viewing options -- no matter what your tastes may be. Audiences of all ages are likely to get a kick out of Monsters vs. Aliens, the DreamWorks Animation adventure about a team of freaks-of-nature -- including a 49-foot woman (Reese Witherspoon), a gelatinous mass (Seth Rogen) and a half-man/half-insect scientist (Hugh Laurie -- trying to save the earth from an extraterrestrial (Rainn Wilson) with evil designs.
The PBS series announced its 2009/10 lineup today and - no surprises here - it's a good one: a nice mix of new and timeless classics. I'm particularly excited to watch Them Crooked Vultures, a recently formed "supergroup" featuring Dave Grohl, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones.--- The 35th edition of the popular show kicks off Oct. 3 with Dave Matthews who apparently is well enough to perform in Texas despite cancelling his gigs in Utah.
With National Coming Out Day fast approaching, LGBT folks who are still in the closet might be wondering, "How can I, a closeted LGBT folk, best prepare for this once-a-year opportunity to begin a healthy new life of honesty and integrity, directed not by external shame, but by my own, inner, self-actualizing voice?" Or something like that.
How in the hell did we all survive the endless garage sales up until now?--- Now it can be told that we must be completely safe from foreign invaders, climage change, (global warming), Iran, North Korea, Swine flu and any number of other real and percieved enemy's of the state. How do I know this? Simple, the government is now targeting GARAGE SALES as the enemy.
Salt Lake City dance enthusiasts have spoken -- and "Flavor of the Day" is going to be more than just the flavor of a weekend. Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company's Sept. 24-26 season-opening production Equilibrium featured four new dances by Utah choreographers, short works on a theme of social change. Audience members a chance to vote on their favorite.

For many, the obvious choice is David Cross.--- The brilliant, ruthless comedian/actor/producer and now author will debut his new book, "I Drink for a Reason," at the King's English from 4-6 p.m. before headlining In the Venue at 7 p.m.
