With plenty of other (and lesser) local sports going on Saturday night, the Salt City Derby Girls still packed in the crowd—albeit most of them late—at the Salt Palace for their 2009 Championship Bout between reigning rink queens Leave It to Cleavers and victory-hungry upstarts Sisters of No Mercy.---
Kingsbury Hall's opened its 2009-10 with comedian Jim Gaffigan, who packed two Sept. 25 performance, filling the theater with booming laughter, and kicking off what is sure to be a great season of performances at the U. Spectators ranged from progressive pre-teens and their middle-aged parents to grungy college kids just aching for a good long bath. Everyone was smiling and electric as they waited for the performance to begin.---
Well, that's a big relief. At times during the past week, I've found myself doubting the judicial system -- but the Bell verdict has restored a lot of people's faith.
I've been enjoying Peg McEntee's columns over at the Trib. She's thoughtful and she has a heart -- but she doesn't get all drippy over it; she knows how to get right to the point.�
Perhaps we need a new surgeon general's warning: "Caution: Having one's head repeatedly bounced off the fists of a horde of large, angry, drunken men may cause muddled statements." OK--yes, it is Bell who is on trial and not his assailants (who have yet to be held accountable for the attack).
