Get Well, Dottie!

We were all sorry to hear that Charles Frost was hospitalized with pneumonia right in the middle of the second run of his and Troy Williams' hit show The Passion of Sister Dottie S. Dixon.

I'm concerned, of course -- my mother-hen worrying instinct kicked in immediately -- but his handlers have assured us that expert medical personnel are working around the clock to ensure Frost's speedy and full recovery. So that's good news.

In fact, in the midst of all the worry, there's something about the whole Sister Dottie phenomenon that I find inspiring. --- Frost's passion for The Passion has been evident not only in the excitement he's expressed in our correspondence, but especially in the energy, hard work and long hours he's put into making the production a success (unfortunately, it seems now, to the point of physical collapse). It has been his raison d'etre -- and, it makes me wonder: How many of us have the daring and perseverance to bring our own dreams to fruition the way Frost and Williams have?

What I mean is, wouldn't it be great to work on a project that you loved so much and that got you so fired up you were too consumed with enthusiasm to realize when you were pushing beyond your own physical limits? We should all be in that kind of hospital bed. (Or, better yet, we should remember to take our vitamins and a day or two off!)

Perhaps Second Helpings followed too close on the heels of Passion's premiere earlier this year. But, if so, it was only to satisfy audience demand: Salt Lake City can't get enough of Dottie, and Dottie was all too willing to oblige.

The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, Dottie.

Get well soon.
