Amanda Hart is following the first season of new Utah Jazz pick Eric Maynor. Read her introduction to this series here.
The regular season is officially underway. Game #1 at Denver Wednesday was a huge opportunity to prove we are a better team this year than last year.--- If you changed the channel at the end of the third quarter, you may not want to look at the final score. It hurt a little.
The first 24 seconds were pretty scary when Mehmet Okur took a charge from Nene and sprained his knee and ankle. He hopped to the locker room, but returned and scored 13 points with 6 boards (we can only hope it wont affect his game tonight). The first 3 quarters were very close, and the Jazz had the lead most of the time. Boozer had a terrible shooting game, going 3 for 14 from the field, but managed 12 points. He also had 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Deron Williams helped make up for it by scoring a team high 28 points with 13 assists. Kirilenko and Brewer both had 16 points, and Millsap had 10 off the bench. Apparently our defensive end didn’t get the memo that we’re playing 4 quarters on the road now instead of 3. Final score: 114-105 for Denver.
Even though we were short handed, Eric Maynor didn’t get much of a chance to make an impact in his NBA regular season debut. He played a total of 2:52 minutes and had straight 0s across the board. It was a night of unusual lineups on the floor, and only 3 of those included Eric. He’ll get his chance sooner or later.
With our record 0-1, we’ll move on and laugh as Eric and Wesley roll their little pink backpacks back to Utah and try again Friday against the Clippers. We can still be undefeated at home, which would give us 8 more wins than last season if we kept our terrible road record the same. 56 wins sounds pretty good. It could happen! Oh yeah, Kyle, CJ, and Matt, we need you. Please get better soon!
