While I and others were raising our glasses and praising Gov Huntsman's quest to rid he state of private clubs, we weren't watching what the little rats were doing behind the scenes nibbling at the new law to make things worse than ever.--- Sure we got rid of the stupid private club law but at what cost? Come to find out that Curt Bramble, R-(retard) Provo inserted a little noticed at the time provision that would prevent any type of liquor license be issued to any restaurant that was within 200 feet of a school or church. Even if these institutions had no objection to such an establishment from being opened.
I just came from a briefing with Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker's chief of staff regarding alcohol normalization. Only 16 months after Heather Ferrell became Executive Director of Salt Lake Art Center, the facility is going to be searching for a new leader again. Ferrell -- who was profiled in City Weekly in July -- announced her resignation yesterday, for primarily personal reasons according to a press release.
Tonight’s Planning Commission will be looking at zoning changes to allow community bars within the city. Perhaps Salt Lake City could finally have the neighborhood bar we’ve always heard so much about outside of the Zion bubble.---
As a response in part, at least, to being snubbed by this fall's Downtown Dine O' Round, a cabal of not-so-downtown restaurants have launched a week of "Dining Diversity." --- The idea is to spotlight independent restaurants with a focus on fresh, local fare. The participating restaurants are offering "special menu options" to customers for $20 or $30, running through Sunday, November 1.
