Eric Maynor:So, how was your weekend?

Early Friday morning it looked like the Jazz’s weekend would be pretty disappointing, and extremely difficult for coaches and players.--- With the news that Deron Williams had flown back to Salt Lake to be with his family, it left Eric Maynor as the only point guard available to play in the weekend’s back-to-back road games.

%uFFFD As you probably know, Eric stepped up and lead the team to a Friday win over the Sixers, and almost overcame a 16 point deficit, but lost to the Cav’s by four. He earned his first double-double in the first start of his career (the first Jazz player to do so since Andrei Kirilenko’s rookie season in 2001). Oh and the fact that the King, Lebron James made it a point to tell Eric what a good player he thinks he is after the game. Needless to say, Maynor had a pretty good weekend.

%uFFFD In both games, Eric played about 77 minutes, scored 37 points and dished 15 total assists. Pretty impressive for someone who, prior to this weekend, played 31 minutes, scored 14 points and had 5 assists in the 6 regular season games he played.

%uFFFD Now the question is, is it just beginner’s luck or can he keep it up? With Deron returning to the team Wednesday and Ronnie Price listed as doubtful, Maynor will get enough playing time to show how consistent he can be. Price will definitely have to fight for the back up spot when his toe heals and he can return.
