I wrote a few weeks back about local artists performing
Terry Riley's composition "In C." My introduction to the piece occurred in the wee, small hours of the morning in an art studio full of hip creative types.--- So bohemian. Of course, I stupidly assumed the show would bore me to tears - who wants to watch a bunch of dudes noodling around on their laptops to produce a 30-minute-plus electronic symphony? Good thing I took the bait because "In C" live is amazing! Backed by live percussion and stunning visuals, the constantly shifting work involves staggered repetition of melody. The effect is hypnotic. Experience the magic at one of Utah's coolest landmarks for a mere $5.
Salt Lake Electric Ensemble (featuring members of Red Bennies, Tolchock Trio and The Wolfs) plays "In C" tonight at Tower Theatre. Doors open at 7 p.m.
