Roller Derby: Wasatch vs. Treasure Valley Saturday

For the second time this month, Wasatch Roller Derby bouts at the Salt Palace in downtown SLC--but this time, instead of playing with themselves (let's re-phrase that: against themselves), WRD is facing off against Idaho's Treasure Valley Roller Girls in the first inter-league game of the local season on Saturday, Feb. 27. ---

WRD's all-star travel team Midnight Terror (an odd name, since they don't actually play past 10 pm) promise a bout that's, says the league press release, "fast paced, hard hitting and possibly high flying depending on the strategy of the Midnight Terror! Don’t miss Dr. Pain and her airborne blocks and Honey Delunatic’s agility to dodge hits. Queen Anne’s Revenge will not disappoint as she effortlessly moves through the pack. Miss E. Vil and Miss Bizness Das will team up to destroy the competition."

The Salt Palace (100 S. West Temple) doors open at 6 pm; bout begins at 7 pm. All tickets are general admission: $10 in advance, $12 at the door; children 5 and under free. Advance tickets are available at Hoppers (890 Fort Union Boulevard, Midvale) and WasatchRollerderby.com. No word yet if beer will be available at the Salt Palace for this bout--a heinous oversight, since roller derby without beer is like NASCAR without crashes or hockey without fights: Why bother?

Update: There will be beer! Praise be!

The rest of the local roller-derby schedules, including WRD, Salt City Derby Girls, Junction City Roller Dolls and O-Town Derby Dames, can still be found in the previous Utah Roller Derby: 2010 Preview blog.
