In 1884, German immigrant and brewer Albert Fisher established the A. Fisher Brewing Company on the banks of the Jordan River (1206 West) at 200 South. Quickly, Fisher Brewing became Utah's largest brewery. --- In 1993, Fisher built a Victorian mansion adjacent to the brewery and, this weekend, the Fisher Mansion -- now owned by Salt Lake City -- will be open to the public for a historic celebration of the Fisher brewery.

Saturday afternoon, May 15, from 1 to 4 PM, features a community celebration, free to the public, which will highlight the cultural flavor of the Fisher Mansion neighborhood of 1893. Tours of the home will be featured. On the grounds, festivities will include barbershop quartets, brass bands, arbor tours, croquet and other period games and activities, and booths offering German-style fare: bratwurst, soft pretzels, popcorn and root beer.

On Saturday evening, May 15, from 5 to 9 PM, the Fisher Family and Red Rock Brewing Company will host the Albert Fisher Beer Garden on the mansion grounds. Patrons can relive the days of Albert Fisher enjoying German food and drink along the banks of the Jordan River.

Proceeds from the event go to Celebrate the City 2010 and to Salt Lake City's Historic Preservation Fund.
