Park Silly Sunday Market

The lower half of Park City’s Historic Main Street was bursting with colorful sights and smells Sunday, as the weekly Park Silly Sunday Market took over town.

Part arts festival, part boutique street sale and part outdoor food extravaganza, the market is a fun and quirky alternative to other outdoor markets—for one, they don’t have any farmers selling produce. But you can find vendors here selling whimsical puppets, bright parasols, eclectic jewelry, and all sorts of other neat finds.
There’s plenty of entertainment for the whole family, as well. The market has free kids’ activities available, and quite a few of the booths sell handmade toys and crafts geared toward children. A stage at the bottom of the street features live music and comedy performances. For the adults, there are vendors selling beer and cocktails that can be enjoyed while watching the free entertainment.
The Park Silly Market offers an easy, casual way to sample the some of the town’s eclectic restaurants and boutiques. A few boutiques have booths at the market, and several stores have sidewalk sales at the same time. Many prominent restaurants, such as Shabu, operate booths where you can sample a few of their signature sushi rolls or enjoy more casual versions of their popular dishes, like delicious, freshly prepared noodle bowls. The Eating Establishment offers barbecued ribs, and Taste of Saigon dishes out large helpings of rice and curry at their stand.
For a light snack, I personally enjoy a fresh-squeezed lemonade (offered by several food booths) and kettle corn from Sugar Bear. However, there’s also locally made ice cream offered by the Yellow Snow Ice Cream Company, or, if you’re in the mood for something lighter, Italian Ice from the candy boutique Sugar Buzz’s cart.
If you’re looking for a unique gift, there’s a wide assortment of handmade jewelry, ranging from delicately woven gold-wire earrings to chunky necklaces made from recycled pocket watch parts. You can also find interesting hats for the next big horse race or tie-dyed clothing for the next music festival. Most of the artists are Park City locals, and new people are featured at the market each week, so be sure to go more than once.
