Utah’s watchdogs of fraudsters, affinity scammers and all-around-shysters, have always warned there’s no such thing as a free lunch. That being said, if you register in advance, you can get a free lunch at the upcoming Fraud College consumer education event on June 30.--- Luckily this is a deal that is good enough to be true.

Fraudulent schemes fleeced more than a billion dollars from hardworking Utahns last year according to a recent report by the FBI. So don’t be a contributor to Utah’s robust fraud economy! By attending this free event sponsored by the Utah Department of Commerce, you can become educated on fighting consumer fraud.

Emceed by award-winning KUED journalist Ken Verdoia, the event will boast numerous speakers like Carolyn Jessop, who escaped from a fundamental polygamist community. Jessop will discuss her latest book as well as give tips on avoiding pressure situations. Former con artists will give presentations on how they operated and sized up victims. An interfaith panel will discuss the perils of affinity fraud in religious network and the college will also feature representatives of the FBI, SEC and local legal organizations all discussing tips for spotting and avoiding fraud.

Check it out, for free, Wednesday, June 30, at Utah Valley University, 800 W. University Parkway, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. To RSVP and reserve a lunch register here.
