Local Releases: Wasnatch, Ryan Innes, Dave Chisholm

The
Arts Fest is happening all this weekend, but for those who can't make
it to that, we have a couple local releases this week for you to
check out. --- Starting tonight at The Woodshed where the debut
release from Wasnatch will hit. The reggae fusion group have been
mixing and mastering a set for a while now, a lot of it being kept
under the radar with only live performances to go on. But their debut
EP Midnight is sounding pretty killer as tracks were barely released
yesterday on their MySpace. Check them out tonight along with DJ Dan
Sharp spinning on the back patio. Just $5 starting at 9PM. I wish I
had a cover but that's under raps too, so here's their
logo.
Meanwhile down south, one of the last shows from Velour
before they close for the summer. (No, seriously, they're taking two
weeks off.) So as a sendoff for the summer, solo R&B man Ryan Innes will be putting out his self-titled EP tonight. A softer toned artist, a good many of the songs are simple him behind a piano or guitar, a slight throwback to the early 70's and early 00's revival of the single man singing. I'll be honest, it makes me feel more like I'm listing to a guy at The Tavernacle, but there's a sense of genuine effort and originality in his music that actually makes him worth checking out. Playing along side Ryan tonight will be Truman and Jarrett Burns. $7 at 8PM.
And then this Tuesday as mentioned in this week's issue (by some guy with my name), Dave Chisholm will be celebrating the release of his new EP, Radioactive. I'll save you from rehashing what you'll already read and tell you that so far this is THE jazz album to own this year. Its a beautifully composed work of art and if you're into the genre you have to get it. As written in the piece you can catch him with a slew or artists at the New Improvised Music Festival on the 29th, just $6 starting off at 5:30PM.
