You may know the Salt Lake Film Society primarily as a venue for seeing interesting filmmaking. They're also doing their damndest to help foster its creation. ---

The non-profit organization behind the Broadway Centre and Tower Theaters, hard on the heels of its most recent Utah Screenwriters Project, has announced the launch of the Utah Digital Directors Project. The six-week lab will allow the four selected filmmakers to (quoth the press release) "refine inherent inefficiencies throughout the entire process of digital film making" to allow for better movies, more cheaply. The end result will be a 1-3 minute short film on Blu-Ray to be showcased at a public screening in October.

The inaugural class of directors includes Jill Orschel (whose short documentary Sister Wife won the 2009 City Weekly Artys award); Screenwriters Project alum An Dinh (pictured); Connie Wilkerson; and Alex Johnstone (whose short The Deep got a Sundance showing).
