Ogden's Kokomo Club Turns 50

One of O-town's venerable nightclubs is celebrating its 50th birthday with a day-long throwdown Saturday.---
From 1 p.m. until closing time early Sunday morning, Ogden's Kokomo Club (216 25th St., Ogden) will be welcoming one and all to help celebrate its birthday. The club is a staple on Historic 25th Street, and as any Ogden bar-hopper will tell you (myself included), any night on the town in Ogden isn't complete without a stop at the Kokomo.
The club is owned by Eddie Simone, who was working in Montana and barely in his 20s when the Kokomo went up for sale. The original plan, according to this story in this morning's Ogden Standard-Examiner, was for Simone to take care of the place until his parents took it over. They never did, and Simone and his wife Cindy have been the proud proprietors ever since.
The place is friendly, if bare-bones. You can still buy smokes out of a machine there, and hear the Kap Bros. virtually every week on Thursday nights (they'll be playing the party Saturday as well), but you can't use a credit card for the cheaper-than-average drinks.
If you're looking for an adventure of an altogether different kind this weekend, consider a Frontrunner ride to 25th Street and walk east a block or two. The Kokomo will be easy to spot, and worth a stop.
