How does Rocky Mountain Care Foundation work?
The Foundation raises money through grants, donations, and fundraising events to benefit individuals needing assistance with healthcare needs. We provide financial assistance and volunteer services. Hospice and Community Outreach volunteers in Cache, Weber, Davis, Salt Lake, Utah, Emery, Carbon, and Washington counties, provide various services on an individualized basis. Most visit one-on-one with homebound patients or residents of skilled nursing facilities. They make friendly visits, assist with light house/yard work, run errands like grocery shopping, provide respite to full time care-givers, playing games, and help with “end-of-life” projects, such as recording life stories. Volunteers are an essential part of Hospice philosophy and they help to provide comfort and support to patients and their families.
What kind of events do you hold throughout the year to raise funds?
On the morning of August 21, 2010, we have the “Live to Give” 5K Run/Walk & Carnival at Sugar House Park. It is a non-competitive event for all ages featuring a Kid’s Fun Run, Live Music, Carnival Games and lots of Prizes! The name for the event comes partly from a quote by Winston Churchill. He once said, “We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give."
We also host an annual Fundraising Golf Tournament held in June to raise money for our Charitable Care Initiative.
What will the money from this 5K benefit?
Proceeds will go to support volunteer programs. Some people think that a volunteer program can be run for free. This simply isn’t the case. In addition to the cost of operation, training expenses, background checks and TB screenings, we need funds to purchase recording and computer equipment that will allow us to expand the services we offer regarding end-of-life projects. This equipment will be used to record the life stories for Hospice Patients and preserve them for their families and future generations.
This is the third 5K the Foundation has sponsored. What is different this year?
We’re hoping to increase participation and we’re catering the event to all age groups. We’ve added a Kid’s Fun Run, and the post race party will have Live Music from local artists including Ryan Innes and Nik Day, There will also be carnival games and attractions; caricature artists; inflatable toys, and a cake walk in addition to some great raffle prizes. I am particularly excited about the live music. We have some incredible talent coming to support our cause.
What can people do to get involved?
People can pre-register for the race at RockyMountainCareFoundation.org. The fee includes an event tee and 10 carnival game tickets.
