Just in time for Halloween weekend, it's a triple-feature of horror and mayhem coming to area second-run theaters. ---

In the wake of Paranormal Activity (and ahead of the current Paranormal Activity 2) came the horror fakeumentary The Last Exorcism, about a minister who has lost his faith out to de-bunk the idea of supernatural possession--until he meets a teenager who seems to be the real deal. Written by a screenwriting team better known for comedies, it actually works better as satirical character study than as the creep-fest it wants to be.

If you can't make it out to see Danny Trejo live and in person this weekend at Castle of Chaos, you could always do the next best thing and catch the gleefully cheesy Machete. The Robert Rodriguez regular reprises his role from the fake Grindhouse trailer as a vengeance-seeking ex-Federale with a fondness for cutlery.

And finally, "from the mind of M. Night Shyamalan" -- where, like most of his recent ideas, it apparently should have stayed -- comes the supernatural thriller Devil. Has the Prince of Darkness stalled an elevator so he can terrorize those trapped there? Or does he work in subtler ways, like convincing studios and audiences to throw their money away on M. Night Shyamalan ideas?
