Just flew in from Chicago, and man, are my arms tired! Oh, sorry—sheer exhaustion has sapped my sense of humor. But that doesn't mean I'm not going to make it out tonight for some to-do or another.---

Tonight at The State Room, the Moondoggies are now the headliner as Dawes has dropped off the bill, and truth be told, the show might be better for it. Dawes are fine and all, but while they are at the end of a touring cycle for their album, Seattle's Moondoggies are just ramping up their road trip in support of the stellar new disc, Tidelands

I went and checked out the Moondoggies last week while on my Midwestern jaunt, and they sounded great in that Neil Young-obsessed, country-rock kind of way. With The Romany Rye opening, it's a fine night for flannel shirts and classic (sounding) rock and roll.

Elsewhere, Zakk Wylde (pictured) bring his Black Label Society to headline a show full of heavy hitters at the Great Saltair, including Clutch and Children of Bodom. And The Urban Lounge has a slew of hip-hop acts filling its slate, headlined by Swollen Members.

If you're looking for something a little more low-key, yet still culturally relevant, consider a trip to see Broadway Across America's production of Alice Walker's The Color Purple at the Capitol Theatre.
