Lounge Act Weekend: The Call of the Wild

We have all kinds of wild things scrambling around SLC this weekend, from wild animals to wild musical men and women. Are you wild enough to keep up?---

It starts Friday night with Hogle Zoo's 18th annual World of the Wild Art Show, featuring amazing shots of residents of Utah's own mini-Wild Kingdom, taken by local photographers. The show will be on display through March 13.

Friday night is full of wild aural options as well. Texas guitar-slinger Junior Brown--inventor of the double-necked "guit-steel"--is playing a sold-out show Friday at The State Room, so if you're interested in tickets, find yourself a scalper. Likewise, last I heard the RJD2 show at The Urban Lounge was close to selling out, too, and that gig should offer some wild waving of hands in the air (you know, like you just don't care?).

Former Salt Laker and current New Yorker Erin Barra is headlining a gig at Bar Deluxe, showcasing her "One Woman Army" approach and showcasing songs from her new album, Illusions. And if you happen to be up in Park City, picking at the carcass of the finally ending Sundance Film Festival, the inimitable Slick Rick (pictured) is holding it down at Downstairs, performing his debut album in its entirety.

On Saturday, the tunes just keep on coming.

Former Guns 'n' Roses and Velvet Revolver axe-man Slash, the most famous top hat outside a Monopoly board, is headlining a show at The Depot in Salt Lake City; check out our interview with the man right here.

The Urban Lounge is hosting a sold-out gig by Little Dragon, so if you don't have tickets yet, go linger around the door and hope for the best. While you're loitering, read our interview with the sweet Swedes right here. Or, opt for a drive to Park City where Chali 2Na is headlining a show.

Back in Salt Lake City, the City Weekly Street Team will be tagging every available surface they can find at the new Graffiti Lounge on State Street downtown. If you're nice to them, you might get a free drink out of a visit. And the artistically inclined should note that Garfo is hosting a closing reception for its Hideout show, so it's your last chance to check it out.
