Two rallies are planned this week to oppose the Utah Legislature's move to give itself extra privilege to secrecy as well has make public records request of all kinds more expensive and limited. Conservatives, liberals and even out-of-staters are criticizing HB 477.---

Criticism of the bill has included complaints that e-mails and text messages would no longer be public record (even Mexico includes e-mails as public record!), the Legislature itself would be entirely excluded from the Government Records Access and Management Act, more commonly called GRAMA, and perhaps worst of all, the Legislature displayed great disrespect for the public input by rushing the bill through both chambers in less than a week in an effort to stymie public opposition. Their rush is why you are hearing about all this so abruptly.

In addition to the rallies, you can get informed or involved in the following ways.

First: call or e-mail Gov. Gary Herbert and tell him to veto HB 477 because you believe in government transparency.%uFFFD
