Following an incredible week of releases, along with Record Store Day special editions, it’s a sophomore smorgasbord, that’s somewhat slim pickins, today.---

I’m putting my finger on tUnE-yArDs’ second album w h o k i l l as today’s best bet. Merrill Garbus has matured by leaps and bounds since her 2009 debut and her new effort is sonically all over the map. If you can stick through its schizophrenic jumps, it’s well worth the listen for its diversity, depth and playfulness.

The Watson Twins are putting out an EP to satiate those that love their delicate harmonies. Night Covers includes nocturnally-inclined cover songs by Bill Withers, Black Keys, Sade, PJ Harvey and more.

The Swedish version of Broken Social Scene, Im From Barcelona has upwards of 28 musicians to add layer upon layer upon layer on their indie-pop sophomore release Forever Today.

An indie conglomeration of massive proportions releases their second album today. About Group is comprised of members of Hot Chip, This Heat and Spiritualized and their effort Start and Complete is loose, improvisational and worth a listen.

On the world music tip, Omara "Bombino" Moctar guitarist from Niger sure plays something special with his six string on an album that’s driven by a polyrhythmic whirlwind of percussion. Check out and enjoy it for yourself.

There are far less French horns than you’d think on French Horn Rebellion’s debut disco-trip of an album. It’s full of synthy hooks and should prepare Salt Lakers adequately for the pop band’s live show when they open for Yelle at the Urban Lounge on May 11.
