I'm going to go ahead and call this the first weekend of spring. I don't care what the calendar says, THIS is the kind of weather we've all been waiting for. So get outside and play. But keep in mind these options, too.---

Ballet West, our world-class ballet company, is throwing its annual Innovations shows Friday and Saturday at the Rose Wagner, and the show is always pretty cool because you get to see dances choreographed by Ballet West dancers, and performed by Ballet West dancers. You don't always get to see the dancers' myriad talents when they're doing the classics during the season; Innovation is a chance to see them really stretch out.

This weekend is also your last chance to see the Castle of Chaos Spring Scream, and what better day to do just that than Friday the 13th? The haunted house will also be moving from its current 3300 South location this fall for Halloween, so go say goodbye to the site of many frights.

Here's a perfect reason to hang outside: the annual Great Salt Lake Bird Festival, which includes guided tours, classes and a bunch of parties with your fellow birders. The festival runs all day Friday and Saturday at the Davis County Event Center.

Author Sarah Dressen, who's been penning tomes for teens for a good 15 years, makes her first visit to Utah Friday at 7 p.m. at The King's English; expect a crowd, so get there early for the reading and signing.

On Saturday, the Sons of Nothing are releasing their brand-spanking-new CD, Green & Gray, at Carol's Cove. You might know these guys as a top-notch Pink Floyd tribute band, but you might not know they write their own original prog-rock. Well, here's a chance to see 'em do a bunch of their own tunes.

Up in Ogden on Saturday, you can join the Union of the Birds and the Bees, a charity event featuring beer from Rooster's, food from the Union Grill and Beehive Cheese, benefitting the Ronald McDonald Family Room at the Ogden Regional Medical Center. A mere $40 gets you the tasty grub and a chance to do something for a good cause. The party goes from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Union Grill.

And on Sunday, if you're jonesing for a little poppy rock & roll before heading back to work Monday, Jimmy Eat World
drops in on In The Venue for a gig.
