China has a watermelon problem: They're exploding! Melons in Chinese farmers' fields in the Jiangsu province have been exploding like landmines --- following the use of a growth accelerator called forchlorfenuron. Widespread use of the chemical combined with unusually wet weather caused the melons to burst, according to agriculture experts.

The chemical is allowed in the United State and used on kiwi fruit and grapes, so you might want to be cautious around those fruits, lest you encounter kiwi shrapnel.

When life gives you melons, make melonade.
