A cornucopia of comedy, tunes and assorted action await your perusal on this Thursday.---

Yes, the Rocky Mountain Laugh-Off comedy competition is hot and heavy at Wiseguys this week, as aspiring funny folks do their damnedest to earn yuks from the Wiseguys audience, and a boost to their careers as well.

At In the Venue Thursday, singer/songwriter Brett Dennen (pictured) makes another Salt Lake City stop, this time in support of his stellar new album Loverboy. Read our interview with Dennen right here, then go check out the show. The Submarines open, making it a fine double-bill.

The Deadheads of the valley will want to check out SoCal Grateful Dead tribute band Cubensis, playing tonight at The Complex. Jerry would totally want you to go; the band has been doing its Dead thing for 23 years, but this is their first visit to SLC.

The King's English (which is also having a fat sale on hardcovers beginning today) is hosting author  Karl Marlantes at 7 p.m. for a reading from his well-received new Vietnam War history, Matterhorn.

And finally, if you're like me, you've been waiting for some decent weather to hit a Salt Lake Bees game. Well, the weather's fine today (so far), and it's Thirsty Thursday to boot.
