The music festival on Lake Powell, held in Page, Ariz., is produced by the same folks as Desert Rocks but will be much larger in scope. It will host roughly 60 bands on 8 stages from September 22-25. Tickets are $125 in advance and $175 at the door.
Reports came back from a variety of sources last year that the festival was “too much like a rave” and “unorganized” with a lineup too similar to Desert Rocks, which means lots of local bands with a few headliners--Pretty Lights, Lukas Nelson, Del the Funky Homosapien and Loverboy.
Apparently, Powellapalooza heard the feedback and is starting things off on the good foot. This year’s initial lineup includes:
Slightly Stoopid, Yonder Mountain String Band, Rebelution, RJD2, Karl Denson's Tiny Universe, Latryx Tour feat. Lateef the Truth Speaker & Lyrics Born, Big Gigantic, Beats Antique, Hot Buttered Rum, People Under the Stairs, Zion I, Toubab Krewe, MiM0SA, Boombox, Chali 2na, The Motet, Astronautalis, Mutaytor, The Band of Heathens, Los Rakas w/ Nima Fadavi and Young Dubliners.
And that’s just the initial lineup. I’m guessing any additional bands will be local to round things out and spread the love.
Here’s to hoping that they will put as much work into the logistics as in the lineup to make it Utah(ish)’s finest musical festival!
