Die (Fictionally) for Hurricane Relief

As part of a project by writers to help raise hurricane-relief funds, a Utah writer wants you to pay for the privilege of having him kill you off in a creatively gruesome way. ---

Dan Wells (pictured) -- author of the John Wayne Cleaver supernatural thriller trilogy that included the City Weekly Artys Award winner I Don't Want to Kill You -- has joined forces with Read for Relief, an effort organized by several East Coast writers to raise money for those impacted by Hurricane Irene. Wells' contribution carries his own unique vibe: He's offering to let a winning bidder in an online auction become a character in an upcoming book, where that character will be dispatched in a memorable manner. And those who have read Wells' books know that when he says your namesake will end up "amazingly dead," he ain't kidding.

Wells will contact the winning bidder directly to gather relevant information about physical characteristics and other details you'd like to be part of the literary immortalization. The method of the madness will be entirely the writer's doing. The auction is currently open, and set to close Sunday, Sept. 18 at 10 p.m. EST. Bid now, and rest in peace.
