Harmons' Customers Give Big to Utah Food Bank

Utah Food Bank provides food to a statewide network of 150 emergency food pantries and agencies statewide. This summer, Harmons' food drive provided the largest single contribution to Utah Food Bank's summer business food drive. --- Celebrating its 79th birthday, Harmons launched a food drive that generated more than 33,000 pounds of food, providing 26,263 meals for Utahns in need.
For the drive, Harmons invited customers to purchase convenient, pre-filled $10 Food for Families grocery bags and donate them to the Food Bank, while still at the store. “Harmons Grocery Stores and its customers collected 33,617 pounds of food,” says Brandon Daniels, food drive coordinator for the Utah Food Bank. “This was the largest amount donated by any single participant during this year’s Summer Business Food Drive.”
“The food drive is part of Harmons' longtime tradition of giving back to the community,” says Bob Harmon, vice president and co-owner. “We’re so pleased that our customers got behind our annual effort in August. And, because there is an ongoing need, we’ll carry on our commitment to the Utah Food Bank through our annual Gift for a Gift Thanksgiving Turkey Drive in November, and our yearly holiday food drive.”
Harmons’ overall support of the Utah Food Bank also includes participating in the charity’s new Fresh Grocery Rescue Program. Through this effor,t Harmons donates “un-sellable,” but safe and wholesome food that has reached its sell-by date, but has not yet expired -- such as meat, wall and service deli, dairy, produce, general non-food merchandise and other seasonal and discontinued items.
Nice to see good people doing good things, which is one reason I choose to shop at Harmons, whenever possible.
