Salt Lake City Mayor Ralph Becker will declare Saturday Human Rights Day with a celebration and the opening of the “DREAMers: Living in the Shadow of Hope” photo exhibit profiling the struggles of young undocumented immigrants.---

The celebration comes in honor of the 63-year anniversary of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights. At the city celebration, guests will be able to see the opening of the photo exhibit by photographer Lynn Hoffman-Brouse and social worker Annie Brewer. The DREAM Act, which failed to pass in 2010, would have given undocumented students a path to legal citizenship.

Through photos and statements, the exhibit illustrates the anxiety of these youth who struggle to become a part of American society after having been brought over when they were very young, sometimes as infants.

The human-rights battles and causes that confront our society today, including immigration, will also be the subject of a panel discussion at the event that will include Rep. Rebecca Chavez-Houck, D-Salt Lake City, KRCL’s Radio Active Producer Troy Williams and immigration attorneys Lorin Tester and Aaron Tarin.

Check it out, Saturday, Dec. 10, 6 p.m. on the second floor of the Salt Lake City & County Building 451 S. State
