Dear GYA, Unfortunately, we've been banished to the most insignificant planet in existence, Earth. But since we're here, we've decided that tonight, at the Great Saltair, we're going to punch your eardrums to oblivion with extreme thrash metal. Is there anything happening today in SLC worthy of the greatest alien rock band of all time? - Oderus Urungus, GWAR---
Oderus, nothing will be as metal as your show tonight. But here are a few things going down that some of your minions may enjoy:
For a complete alternative to thrash metal, head over to Urban Lounge tonight for Neon Indian. The indie electronic band has been compared to groups like MGMT and the Wavves and has been on a touring rampage since releasing their second album Era Extrana. The show starts at 9 p.m. and tickets are going for $15.
At 6:30 p.m., check out the film Cave of Forgotten Dreams at the downtown Salt Lake City Public Library. The film follows legendary filmmaker Werner Herzog as he examines the 30,000-year-old cave drawings in the Chauvet Cave in France. As part of the Science Movie Night series, the library will also host local archaeologist Dr. Laurel Casjuns for a lecture on Utah's own ancient rock art.
Every Tuesday, City Weekly and True TV offer up a free screening of the FX drama Justified at Brewvies. It's the story of a grizzly U.S. Marshall who's method of peace keeping may or may not be Justified. Whatever, just go see the thing; it's free. The show starts at 8 p.m.
Other goodies going down today:
- Rockers Heroes and Villains will be playing tonight at Kilby Court. The show starts 7 p.m.
- Check out the celebrated art exhibit Let Them Eat Cupcakes at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art.
- Pub trivia with Geeks Who Drink is at Maggie McGees, starting at 8 p.m.
