Singer-songwriter's dream of rock comes true

“In essence, we're a rock band, perhaps of the garage variety, trying to write simple, accessible songs that mostly make people want to dance and have a good time,” Shaw says of Color Animal.
This aesthetic is in fairly stark contrast to the recent track record of the singer-songwriter who’s most widely recognized as the brains behind The Platte, a solo project that was focused on being “very sparse, pensive, meditative.” He has also aided other projects in town: from Calico to playing keyboards for Will Sartain’s self-titled project to scoring Kenny Riches Must Come Down -- his first feature film and Shaw’s first scoring opportunity.
“But in the back of my mind, I've wanted a rock band again … just to have a more fun, dance-able, and sometimes aggressive performance opportunity,” Shaw says, adding that they plan to record an album over the summer once a few more songs are hashed out.
Color Animal is: Shaw (guitar, vocals), Nick Neihart (guitar), Tyler Ford (drums) and Felicia Baca (bass, backup vocals).
