Beside the Question: Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside

Because, after all, you can’t be serious all the time.
So, Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside agreed to be City Weekly’s guinea pig for the inaugural edition of this blog. The band is playing at The Urban Lounge on Thursday, May 10 in support of Deer Tick, so make sure you head down to the show early.
Here’s a lit bit of randomness, courtesy of Ford:
City Weekly: I was thinking that a couple of your songs -- especially “I Swear” and “Against the Law” -- would go really nicely in a ‘90s-era Tarantino flick. What do you think? Which movie of his (or another one) would you want to see your tunes in?
Sallie Ford: Hell, yeah. That would sweet. I loved both the Kill Bill movies and think our songs could fit. It's funny that you mention that, too, because we are headed in a sort of surfy direction with our music!

CW: Has your sound been influenced by old movies at all? Or old television shows?
SF: In a way, yes. I used to watch so many movies -- any movie with a classic, retro sort of beauty: Breakfast at Tiffany's, Some Like It Hot, The Birds and Wizard of Oz are some examples.
CW: Have you ever bought a product from an infomercial? Or at least thought really hard about it?
SF: I always wanted to buy some sort of fancy deep fryer from an infomercial. That could be a great investment. Haha.

CW: When was the last time you laughed uncontrollably when it was socially inappropriate?
SF: Probably in a Catholic church somewhere in Europe.
CW: When have you felt most alive?
SF: Performing on a stage where it was way too hot and the crowd was crazy and I was sweating like crazy.
CW: What is your favorite drink?
SF: Kir. It's a French drink, white wine with a splash of berry liquor in it. They also make a "kir royal" which is the champagne version.
CW: If you were a tree, what kind would you be?
SF: Dogwood.
CW: What do wood and alcohol have in common?
SF: Wood and alcohol can build something totally classy or totally trashy.
CW: What's your go-to karaoke song?
SF: Patsy Cline's "Walkin' after Midnight" [watch below].
