Dear GYA, People are upset because I want to raise the downtown-parking rates to $2 an hour and enforce the meters till 10 p.m.. What's the big deal? Part of becoming a big city is making everything more expensive and annoying. We all need to do our job to make SLC a bigger, better city, and if it means paying out the keister for parking, then so be it. Anything happening today that's not downtown? I don't want to pay for parking. - Mayor Ralph Becker---

Mr. Mayor, there's gotta be other ways to make all that sweet, sweet money besides gouging motorists. For starters, how about using parking meters that don't cost $4.5 million? Or hell, have all the meter maids do jogging patrols? You gotta think outside the box. Anyways, here are some things happening today; unfortunately for you, some of 'em are downtown:

If you're a fan of NPR's This American Life, now's your chance to see it live. Along with 500 theaters nationwide, Cinemark 16 will be hosting a live screening of Ira Glass's hit show at 7 p.m. tonight. This special episode will feature guests such as writers David Sedaris and David Rakoff, original short films and performance art -- Plus, musical guests. OK, go!

The always eclectic alternative-country crooners%uFFFDDeer Tick will be performing at The Urban Lounge this evening. For the unfamiliar, the Rhode Island natives' sound is described as a blend of folk, country and blues. Should be an interesting show. Sally Ford & The Sound Outside are also on the bill. The show starts at 9 p.m.

It's officially spring now that the annual Beehive Bazaar is happening today at the Shops at Riverwood. Over 50 trending-setting local artists will descend upon this festival of knick-knacks, which features unique goods like handmade jewelry, clothes, jams and baked goods. The shopping starts at 10 a.m.

Other worthwhile events:

- The Mestizo Institute of Culture and Arts will be hosting the art exhibit Dollar Daze all day today.

- Photographer M.A. Coberly's exhibit entitled Line, will be showcased today at the Covey Center for the Arts in Provo.

- Kilby Court will be have the acoustic pluckers Joe Pug and Bailiff onstage tonight at 7 p.m.
