Dear GYA, So, I finally started getting into Battlestar Galactica on Netflix, and, well, by "getting into" I mean I haven't left my basement in two weeks. I gotta ask: Is everyone on this frackin' show a Cylon?!--- I swear on the 12 gods of Kobol, if Admiral Adama is a frackin' Cylon, I'm gonna lose it. Seriously, I need to get out of my house for a little while; anything happening today? - Steve Sparcels, Provo
Steve, stop watching that show immediately, it's a succubus. Though insanely entertaining, it's a black hole of productivity. Luckily for you, there's a ton of stuff going on today:
Los Angeles-based rapper Schoolboy Q will be on the mic at Kilby Court tonight. As part of the Black Hippy crew, Q has been blowing up over the last year, signing a joint-venture deal with Dr. Dre's Aftermath records and putting out arguably one of the best hip-hop albums of 2012. Ab-Soul, Dope Thought and Hurris and Gig are also on the bill. The show starts at 7 p.m.
Actor and comedian Ralphie May will be telling some jokes tonight at Wiseguy's Comedy Club West Valley. In 2003, May placed second on Comedy Central's Last Comic Standing and since then, he's appeared on The Wayne Brady Show, The Tonight Show With Jay Leno and the film The Best and The Brightest. The show starts at 7 p.m.
The Salt Lake Bees will be taking on the Albuquerque Isotopes at 6:35 p.m. Tonight is Smith's Family Night, which means you can score a ticket and a hot dog for only $5! Shoot, if you're not a fan of baseball, then at least show up for the dogs! Conversely, if you're a fan of hot dogs, then come watch some local minor-league baseball for cheap.
Other worthwhile events:
- Pub Quiz Night at The Republican, beginning at 9:30 p.m.
- The works of famed Mexican artist Frida Kahlo are on display at the Kimball Art Center in Park City.
- The contemporary art installation Dollar Daze is going on at the Mestizo Institute of Culture & Arts.
