Dear GYA, I just decided to be a DJ last week -- have you heard my set? It's sooo fab! lol. First, I start out with some house remixes, and then for the last half-hour or so all you hear are thousands of other DJs smashing their equipment at the same time. It's sick! Anything happening today that I can totally ruin for everyone?- Paris Hilton
Paris, don't worry about ruining DJing; Skrillex and Pauly D already beat you to it. Anyways, here's what's happening tonight:
Your favorite Swedish DJ, Avicii will be performing tonight at the Great Saltair. He's most famous for his 2011 track "Levels" in which Avicii takes a classic Etta James' sample from the 1962 single "Somethings Gotta Hold of Me" and remixes it into a song used in Bud Light Platinum commercials. The show starts at 8 p.m.
The smooth sounds of Tycho will echo off the walls of Urban Lounge. I know you're probably thinking of the famous Danish Nobleman and astronomer, but I'm actually referring to the ambient producer of the same name, known for crafting smooth, earthy jams. The show starts at 9 p.m.
City Weekly will be offering up a free screening of Wes Anderson's most under-rated movie of all time, Fantastic Mr. Fox at Brewvies tonight. Based on Roald Dahl's beloved children's book of the same title, the film was marketed to kids, but with Anderson's witty dialogue and attention to detail, it's easy for adults to also enjoy. The show starts at 8 p.m.
Other worthwhile events happening tonight:
- Free Lunch Box Concerts at Gallivan Center, starting at noon.
- The Sound of Music will be going on at the Hale Centre Theatre tonight.
- The award-winning Big Shiny Geek Show Pub Quiz will be happening at Lucky 13, beginning at 8 p.m.
