The fourth film in the Ice Age series shows a distinct lack of creativity—one that, unfortunately, critics are duplicating with pun-filled references. ---

A sampling of critics’ quotes for Ice Age: Continental Drift features more than a few nods to pre-history, extinction, ice, etc.

“Overall there’s enough prehysterical fun to ensure that family audiences won't be disappointed.” – David Aldridge, Radio Times

“… sufficiently wacky fun—even if the ice feels a bit thin.” – Paul Bradshaw, Total Film

“…about as surprising and unpredictable as a glacier.” – Stephen Whitty, Newark Star-Ledger

“Logic may be extinct, but, boy, do these movies whiz by like ice cubes zipping across a linoleum floor. … in Hollywood’s current age of remakes and reboots, that’s pretty cool.” – Sean O’Connell, Washington Post

“…the Ice Age series still has a couple of millennia left in it.” – Chris Hewitt, St. Paul Pioneer Press

“One of these days extinction will win out.” – Bill Goodykoontz, Arizona Republic

“… a natural selection, whatever era you’re from.” – Elliott Noble, Sky Movies

This week’s Gene Shalit Special Citation for Teeth-Grinding References goes to the following, which is only a sampling of the nonsense to be found in the full review:

“The prehistoric pals aren’t as fossilized as we may have feared … may not be earthshaking, but as a respite from those dry-as-a-dinosaur-bone days of summer, this family entertainment is far from beastly.” – Kimberly Gadette, Doodle
