Dear GYA, After some long ... hard ... thoughts, I've decided it's time for me to let go of my mistress American Idol before she boils my rabbit. It seems that over the past two years, I've strayed from my first love, promoting crispy chicken strips in quirky Burger King ads. ---The next two years are going to be dedicated to hawking some serious chicken. In the meantime, anything happening tonight better than BK's revamped menu? - Steven Tyler
Steven, You're the best at selling out, don't ever forget that. I'm so glad you're getting back to your roots. Here's what's going down:
The American Idol Live Tour will be happening tonight at the Maverik Center. Hear hit songs from past contestants like Colt Dixon, Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez. This is by far your best opportunity to see all the talented and fantastic singers who didn't win anything on the hit show American Idol. The show starts at 7 p.m.
The famed country singer-songwriter Lucinda Williams will be performing at Deer Valley. The Louisiana native is a living legend, of sorts -- she won a Grammy for her 1994 hit "Passionate Kisses" and for her 1998 album Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. Plus, in 2002, Time magazine named Williams "America's Best Songwriter." The show starts at 7 p.m.
Mondays in the Park Concert Series will be going on tonight at Liberty Park. This Monday summer event features various bands, dancers and poets, and this week the theme is An Evening in Brazil. Join musicians Mike Christiansen, Eric Nelson, Christopher Neale, Linda Linford, Lars Yorgason, Don Keipp and Jason Nicholson for Brazilian music from the Bossa Nova movement. The show starts at 7 p.m.
A few more worthwhile events:
- The Beethoven Festival will be happening in Park City tonight.
- At noon, check out the always-free Lunch Bunch concerts at the Gallivan Center.
- And at 9 p.m., the Gallivan Center will be hosting a free screening of The Andromeda Strain.
