Even if you're not into independent film and the mere thought of snow makes you want to run indoors and sit by the fireplace, you should consider yourself lucky you live near the world-famous mountain resort town of Park City. PC is a glamor destination from December through April, (and Utahns can enjoy films and skiing during that time).  From now through November, the hotels and restaurants are still there needing to be filled, which is when locals can cash in. The "shoulder seasons" of fall and spring give you the chance to drive a half-hour for a weekend getaway, enjoy all that the mountains have to offer and get bargain deals on top hotels and restaurants that are used to providing food and services to movie stars and world travelers at the highest levels during the winter. It can be like an episode of  Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous without having to be either rich or famous.

The Park City Chamber  is currently offering a deal where, if you book a participating hotel for three nights, (many with very good rates) show up to check-in with a copy of a document you printed out when booking, they'll hand you a pre-loaded $50 American Express card. That extra $50 works all the better when you go out to top restaurants that are already offering deals. Check out the Park City Restaurant Association Web site for information on the various specials, or simply pick up a copy of the local Park Record newspaper when you get up there and look for coupons, 2-for-1 nights, etc.

The three-day requirement on the hotel offer means the upcoming Labor Day Weekend is a great time for a getaway. In Park City, it's been celebrated as "Miner's Day" for 114 straight years and includes a full day of activities, including the "Running of the Balls." You "adopt" a ball for $5 and an avalanche of them are released at the top of Main Street. The first ones down and into a chute at the bottom win prizes.
