In our article about the Colorado Mountain Winefest in this week’s edition of City Weekly, we mentioned a couple of Palisade/Grand Junction area wineries we like, but since there were too many to mention in that space, we’ve got info on some more of them here. --- Although we are certainly not wine experts, we’ve included what some of our favorites are. Keep in mind that the Grand Valley area has been known as a center for growing peaches and other stone fruits, so many winemakers make fruit wines in addition to grape wines.

Carlson Vineyards cherry wine tastes like cherry pie, but wait, we’re not done. Each bottle comes with a 2 oz. chunk of chocolate made by Enstrom’s, a local company that is world-famous. Melt the chocolate, dip the rim of the wine glass in it, pour in the wine, and get ready for chocolate-cherry bliss.

St. Kathryn Cellars Cranberry Kiss is the perfect wine to go with a certain entree you’ll be having at a large dinner in November. Even if you’re just passing through the area, St. Kathryn’s is conveniently located right off an exit on I-70 and shares the same building with Talon Winery, where you’ll want to try the Wingspan Red, and also get some fudge.

Graystone Vineyards is heaven for port lovers -- that is, if heaven were a tasting room with wine barrels stacked from floor to ceiling. Try the Pinot Gris Lippizan.

High Country Orchards and Vineyards is best known as an amazing producer of peaches so good even the Obamas came and picked them to eat on Air Force One. However, they also produce Colterris Wines, and have a tasting room on the same site as the orchards, where you can take a tour.

Happy tasting!
