Dear GYA, For your information, I really did want to know why airplane windows don't roll down. It's stupid that they don't. Also, I was wondering -- is mayonnaise the same thing as toothpaste? Where does toast come from? And, could I get pregnant from hugging? Man, life sure is complicated, huh? Anything happening today that's not so tough on the old noggin'? - Mitt Romney
Mitt, lucky for you, scientists are working on your questions right now. Soon we'll all have some answers. Here's some simple stuff for today:
In honor of its 25th birthday, City Weekly and Brewvies will be showing a free screening of The Princess Bride. Based on a "kissing book," it's the classic film that taught a generation of kids not to trust six-fingered men and that sometimes you can be mostly dead. The show starts at 8 p.m.(21+)
The Rose Wagner Center will be showcasing Sting and Honey's rendition of the classic Shakespeare play A Winter's Tale. City Weekly blogger Brandon Burt said it best: "The audience cries, laughs, cries again, then sort of does both at the same time. The show is emotionally draining and utterly exquisite." Nox Contemporary is housing Thomas Aaron's latest installment LAND/GAZE. The artist uses old survey maps of the western United States and filters them through the eye of the artist. The result is a existential look at our need to make sense of vast open spaces. The exhibit is going on all day.
Other worthwhile events happening today:
- Powderwhore Productions will be premiering their newest flick Choose Your Own Adventure tonight at Brewvies.
- Wiseguys Trolley Square will be hosting Open Mic Stand-Up, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
- The Big Shiny Geek Show Pub Quiz will be going down at Lucky 13 at 8 p.m.
