It’s not too late to register to help volunteer for the Bonneville Shoreline Trail project Saturday. Or, you can always help restore trees along the Jordan River Parkway with the good greenies of Tree Utah.---

Saturday is National Public Lands Day, and if you’re a believer in preserving a little green space for the generations to come then show your support for some local trails this weekend that help divide the awe of nature from the sprawl of strip malls.

If you register ahead of time, you can help join the Bonneville Shoreline Trail by putting your back into helping preserve the stretch of the trail running along the western slope of Mount Olympus. All necessary tools and training will be provided, but volunteers should register first with the Bonneville Shoreline Trail committee here for the project that runs from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29.

You can also help out here in the Salt Lake Valley by joining Tree Utah in helping restore native trees along the Jordan River Parkway. You’ll need to bring work clothes, gloves, hats, sunscreen and water, but a light breakfast will be provided free, thanks to the good folks of REI.

Check it out, Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Redwood Nature Area, 3060 S. Lester Street; breakfast at 8:45 a.m., project runs from 9 a.m.-12 p.m.
